Desempenho Riding School
Desempenho Riding School offers a complete range of courses: from introducing children and adults to equitation to perfecting the knowledge and skills of horse professionals in horsemanship, horse taming and handling.
Desempenho's program is wide-ranging, progressive and firmly based on the neurological conection of humans and horses.
From the first lessons in sensitization, the student feels how his or her senses can be adjusted to those of the horse following the laws of biology; this is the best and fastest way for intelligent people to develop equestrian skills and acquire greater pleasure in riding and come to fully enjoy their relationship with horses, both during sporting events and leisure riding.

The Homo-Caballus Institute
The Homo-Caballus Institute is the scientific branch of Desempenho, where the philosophy, methods and techniques of advanced equitation and handling are researched, and how to effectively train both rider and horse. Bjarke Rink has published a book on the biological, anthropological and symbiotic development of equitation and the historical impact of horsemanship on individual careers and on the cultural, social and historical rise of nations, and is currently engaged in writing a trilogy on the origin of equitation and the worldwide spread of equestrian power. The Homo-Caballus Institute researches and promotes equestrian culture and has connections and partnerships with universities, governmental and non-governmental institutions and private corporations.

The DESEMPENHO stud
The DESEMPENHO stud breeds Mangalarga Marchador horses; DESEMPENHO also runs a Training Center open to horses of all breeds. The horse chosen for the zootechnical project is a descendent of the Alter-Real, a breed initiated in 1735 by Dom João V, King of Portugal. The reasons for choosing Mangalarga Marchador as the school horse are manifold: the breed is versatile, reliable and comfortable; classical riding executed by these horses is surprisingly beautiful, making it ideal for the riding classes. Desempenho has had a breeding programme since 1983, and selects and trains its horses to compete in the principal modalities of classical equitation, and has produced an elite in the world standard of equitation.
